Back Pain Relief
Intro
In episode 84 of HealingMatters, Jason Eagle talks about low back or lumbar pain management. What is lumbar pain? Where does it come from? How to holistically and naturally stop the pain.
Low Back Anatomy
The low back is made up of the lumbar vertebrae from the lower mid back down to the low back above the hips. You have 33 vertebrae of which, seven make up the lower back. Each vertebrae or backbone is a frame that holds the nerves. In between each vertebrae is a fluid filled disc that acts like a cushion. The nerves branch off from the spine like tree roots.
Causes Of Low Back Pain
Lumbar back pain comes from nerves being pinched, bone rubbing on bone, decreased blood flow from arterial plaque build up, constipation, or back injuries. A misaligned spine creates lots of pain and pressure throughout the body. For instance, forward head posture will create low back pain. If your head is out leaning forward an inch, this multiplies the stress on the spine. Think of each vertebrae as a joint. You have 33 opportunities for misalignment.
Natural Pain Relief
You can manage back pain naturally! Most importantly, see a chiropractor and get your spine aligned. I personally use Dr. Tent from Diverse Health Services in Novi, MI and Dr. Manela from Royal Oak Chiropractic in Royal Oak, MI. Increasing blood flow to your body is essential in the healing process. Atherosclerosis is the build up of plaque in the arteries. It is also an indicator to heart disease. Keep your joints flexible with blood flow, water, and healthy oils.
Eat More Plants
A plant based diet for several months is a great way to get a jump start on clearing plaque our of the arteries. I would add in Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) like coconut oil, avocado oil, and fish oil. But most importantly, cut way down on SUGAR. Stretching
Stretching is also a great way to keep the back and other joints flexible and limber. You can stretch on your own, in a yoga class, or find a Massage Therapist. There are many massage therapy techniques that incorporate stretching, twisting, and squeezing the joints to keep them flexible and increase blood flow. Forms of acupressure massage also help increase the blood flow and energy to the joints.
Constipation
One often overlooked cause of lumbar back pain is constipation and being over weight. Constipation allows acid to leach out of the large intestines and colon and into the low back area. The acids cans actually melt you spine. Don’t forget you, it is possible to heal herniated and bulging discs. It takes a lot of work and healthy eating but think of how much better you will be in 10, 20, 50 years. You won’t have to take pain killers or have surgery. This is an ideal way for natural pain management.
