The Fire Cider Is Ready!

I’ve heard about the health benefits of Fire Cider for years. Each time cold season rolls around, I think to myself, I should make my own Fire Cider. Then I look at all the ingredients and prep work and think maybe later haha! But it’s 2020 and if there was ever a time to be proactive and make healthy choices for my immune system, it’s now.
What is Fire Cider, you ask? Well, it is Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) infused with a whole bunch of crazy root veggies and vegetables and it is AMAZING to boost your immune system, increase your digestions, and more!
There are many recipes online but we used Rosemary Gladstar’s Fire Cider recipe.

Rosemary does a wonderful job explaining why she added each of these superfood ingredients. For instance, onions and horseradish are not foods that I would choose to drink but once I learned that horseradish decreases headaches, decreases sinus aches, and it’s anti-inflammatory and antibacterial… into the ACV it went!

Last month we had a Immune Boosting Fire Cider Making Party! A bunch of our friends that also wanted to boost their immune system joined us in prepping the ingredients and then filling their own custom version of Fire Cider. On the table we presented the prepped fresh Horseradish from the garden, Ginger, Turmeric, Onions, Garlic, Jalapeños, Lemon, and Orange.

All of the dried herbs that can be added to the Fire Cider.

On the counter we laid out the dried herbs: Rosemary, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Mustard Seeds, Black and White Pepper, Cayenne and Chipotle Pepper. What was so fun about making our own Fire Cider is everyone got to use the recipe as a generalization. We were able to let our body’s guide us on which ingredients we wanted.

30 Day Later

One month update: we have filtered our fire cider from the soaked ingredients and added our honey! The traditional recipe has a strong onion flavor. The “little of this and a little of that” has many flavor layers and finishes with a little of cinnamon! So go with your gut and add whatever talks to you. It will be a unique flavor loaded with medicinal properties.

Jason and Katy had an unexpected start to a homestead in 2014. Katy’s father didn’t want to mow the lawn anymore. Before you knew it, there were five sheep in the backyard. Jason wanted a garden, so we cleared some land. Katy wanted some chickens, so we built a coop. Follow us on our multigenerational homesteading adventures and watch how we incorporate Jason’s Quantum Reflex Analysis (holistic health) background at S. Healing Homestead.
