Homemade Toothpaste, Kind Of!

Did you know you can make your own toothpaste?! And it is pretty easy. I opted for a tooth powder because I didn’t know what to expect the first time making it. It took more time researching which recipe to use. I don’t know why, but my recipes always end up a combination of several recipes with the ingredients I resonate with.
These are the recipes that I based my tooth powder off of:

Recipes Are Adaptable

The recipe I used for my tooth powder was what I had on hand. I had a ton of dried Mint and Sage from the garden. I put some into the dry container of the VitaMix. Next time I will let it run longer to get a finer powder. That is the only thing I don’t like about this recipe is all the green herbs pieces left on my teeth and it seems like it’s exponentially increased because of my braces! Good thing I have a water pick.
I also learned that 1/4 Bentonite Clay is one full bottle of Premier Research Labs Medi-Clay. That was a lot of capsules to open by hand! If I would have had Activated Charcoal, that would have been added to the recipe.

Recipe I Used

Like I said, recipes are adaptable for what you have in your kitchen. Here is the recipe I came up with after I found what had on hand. The links in blue are the Premier Research Labs supplements that you can buy on our website, StrategicHealing.us.

Tooth Powder

The finished tooth powder.

Mix all ingredients together and store in a sealed container. I put about a 1/4 tsp of the tooth powder in a small dish and a just enough water to wet the ingredients and mix into a paste. This seems like a large quantity of tooth powder. I’m curious as to how long it will last and I’m glad that I won’t be throwing away a plastic toothpaste tube when I use this up. I like it! I’ll use this recipe to make more when I run out.

Tooth Paste

Jason and Katy had an unexpected start to a homestead in 2014. Katy’s father didn’t want to mow the lawn anymore. Before you knew it, there were five sheep in the backyard. Jason wanted a garden, so we cleared some land. Katy wanted some chickens, so we built a coop.
